North Shore Oahu Elopement | Ashley + Eric

Feb 13, 2020 | 10 comments

This lighthearted North Shore Oahu Elopement was such a great time! It combined some of the best things about the North Shore all into one with pretty morning ocean views, coffee from The Sunrise Shack, and moments beneath the Banyan trees.

Chances are, if you think of the North Shore on Oahu you think of epic surf competitions, historic surfer towns, food trucks, all the tropical vibes, and sea turtles. All of these things are everywhere up there! It’s such a fun place to hang out and it makes for a perfect elopement destination.

When Ashley first reached out to me about her elopement with Eric, she said that they’d been looking far and wide for the perfect elopement spot. That’s when she stumbled on Hawaii, came across my site, and really fell in love with the scenery here. That, combined with the promise of a cup or two from a cute coffee shack had her convinced! She and Eric met online and he was actually the only person she ended up going on a date with! They basically had the coolest first date to a Toronto Blue Jays playoff game and the rest was history. They knew an elopement would be right for them because neither of them love being the center of attention and they weren’t into a big event with a lot of people. Ditching the stress of all of that plus the complexities of planning a traditional wedding with family dynamics gave them the freedom to plan a day that would be far more in synch with who they are as a couple!

Once we started planning for their North Shore Oahu Elopement, we knew sunrise would be the perfect time to go! Not a lot of early risers on the island 😉 We had the cove all to ourselves when we met for their first look. It allowed us plenty of space to roam around the rocky shore and so many choices for where to have their ceremony once Reverend Jofrey arrived.

Jofrey’s ceremony was sweet and, of course, full of laughs. I love how he always reminds us of how incredible it is to be able to experience the beauty of Hawaii in such a special way.

With Ashley + Eric all married, we set off for a pick me up at the Sunrise Shack! This cute little yellow shack creates the most delicious bullet coffees and açaí bowls, it’s definitely a must when exploring the North Shore. I love that we got to stop in for a coffee break!

Coffee in hand, we headed out to spend a little time in one of my favorite spots on the island. There is something so incredible about these Banyan trees, watching the way the roots grow in this winding and unique way. No two trees are alike, especially as different vines start to climb them. It’s as if each one is this amazing painting that nature has dreamed up.

And if you visit the Banyan trees, you definitely always have to make time to go down to the bay beside them where the water is calm and you might just get a surprise shower of Hawaiian rain.
