Intimate Wedding in Tulum

I freaking love being a Mexico wedding photographer. Mexico is one of my favorite places for so many reasons, not the least of which being the food. So when Natalie + Patrick asked me to head down to Mexico to photograph their intimate wedding in Tulum, I said heck yeah!

Tropical Touches Fit for a Tulum Wedding

These two put together the most beautiful tropical wedding with their closest friends, tying in the bright colors of Mexico along with their own style. Their florist used bright pops of color with Bird of Paradise and statement palm fronds along with pineapples as the table centerpieces. It worked together so perfectly! And I just love that these two brought their sweet pup along for the adventure and didn’t let the international aspect stop them from doing that! For their pup who could not be there, Natalie had a pop-up printed out in memory.

The entire wedding took place at their villa they had rented for their time in Akumal Bay. That’s one of the advantages to a destination wedding — you can rent a villa and turn your wedding into a wedding week of fun with your closest friends + family! We started off by getting ready in the villa, seeking out fun textures and spots for details and capturing some of the guests enjoying the slow pace of Mexico.

After getting ready, it was time for their beachside ceremony. I have always thought that the ocean makes such a great ceremony backdrop because it’s not often that you’ll have major distractions going on back there. It’s just beautiful water, tropical breezes, and maybe an occasional bird floating by.

There was no shortage of unique and fun ideas at Natalie + Patrick’s wedding. From the music they had chosen for their playlist to the guy handing out Corona’s, this was one of my favorite ceremonies. The view of the pretty Mexican waters mixed in with the sweet emotions that came with the exchanging of vows was perfect!

The beautiful grounds of the villa made for a perfect spot to take family photos as well as gave us a lovely spot to explore for couple’s portraits. Toward the end of our time, Natalie + Patrick’s surprise for their guests showed up. They had hired a super fun Mariachi band to come and play for their first dance!

After their dances + dinner complete with tacos & margs, the couple enjoyed some toasts and a little dancing with their favorite people. But the absolute highlight of the day was the moment that everyone decided to jump in the pool!! Seriously, these are some of the craziest, funnest photos I have ever taken.
